Biography

My Journey of British Sign Language started 18 years ago as a CSW within education. I became a BSL Trainee interpreter at the Huddersfield University where I worked for 9 years, signing lectures among other various duties. The University funded my learning for me to become a fully qualified RSLI, becoming one of their own In-House full time BSL Interpreters. I moved to Devon 8 years ago and started working in the Deaf Community as a Freelance BSL Interpreter. Having specialised in education for many years I changed my specialism changed to Medical when I moved to Devon. I now Interpret within the domain of the NHS, working in many Hospitals in the region with Consultants, GP surgeries, Dentists, Ophthalmologist, Physiotherapists, OT's, anything to do within a medical domain, working with many medical professionals & patients. As my experience has gained over these last 8 years I now have progressed and go into operating theatres in scrubs when needed, for operations where a medical interpreter is needed to work alongside a surgeon for communication, when the patient is awake for a procedure. I have done several advanced medical BSL courses throughout the last 8 years and I absolutely love the domain I work within. If you should need a fully qualified RSLI in south Devon to work alongside any medical professional, please do not hesitate to be in touch. Thankyou for taking time to read my bio! :)
